McCall in Update

Thank you for attending McCall's first Silk Road Bazaar on Thursday. Co-Chairs Larry Levin and Jesse Gardner thank all of the students and staff that participated and made the event possible: Principal Rock, Coach Sykes, Ms. Martin Burke, Ms. Grune, the Student Council, People Helping People, Lina and Sam Khalifa, Mr. Tang and Yu Hong Chen for translation services and media relations, and all the sponsors who contributed time, merchandise and materials.

Here is a comment from our VIP guest Ken Wong: "The Silk Road Journey is really a 'best practices' lesson in developing positive human relationships amongst the diverse communities serviced by McCall Elementary School. What a wonderful way to teach both parents and children about everyone's "commonalities" instead of being overly focused on our differences. I look forward to many more valuable lessons developed from the Silk Road Journey initiative."

For more from the event, see the Silk Road Facebook Page.

Thank you for attending the 3rd Annual McCall Relays on Saturday. The weather cooperated and so many families enjoyed fun and exercise in Washington Square Park. Thanks to Sharri Horowitz, Marissa Post, and Kim Callahan for helping with registration and t-shirt distribution, Kathy Lewis for getting the coffee, Harry Feinberg for manning the megaphone, Mrs. Keenan for fetching the t-shirts, Playworks for organizing games, Philadelphia Runner for snacks and water, and of course to Sheri Feinberg for coordinating the event.

Reminders

Green Team Needs Adult Members

Our McCall Green Team has accomplished so much this year already and as we help the McCall Science Department plan for the annual STEAM event, we are in need of parent help and expertise. The event this year, McCall STEAMFEST, will consist of the STEAM Night activities, but also green activities during the day with classrooms and students participating in the school-wide event. We need help with organizing, planning, and activities -- the event is approaching on May 22nd

Please email the McCall Green Team at mccallgreenteam@gmail.com to volunteer or to join our mailing list.

Our goal is to make McCall the greenest school in Philadelphia.

McCall IT Committee

Calling all Information Technology Professionals and Computer Hobbyists...committee members are needed for the McCall IT Committee. Commitment can be as little as a few hours a year viewing and responding to emails or as much as you would like working on strategic planning, computer servicing, web development, training and installation. All types of systems experience needed. If you think you can help, please contact Marissa Post for more information.

ASAP (After School Activities Partnerships)

ASAP is excited to announce that long-time supporters and youth advocates John Langan and Judith Nadell have presented ASAP with a challenge grant to broaden its impact in schools and communities in need.

Over the coming months they will match each contribution dollar-for-dollar up to $50,000.

McCall has used ASAP for programs such as chess and scrabble.

To make a donation to ASAP, or to learn more, visit its website.
