New Trends in Family Engagement - May 20, 2014 from 8:30 to 10:00 am @ the District's Education Center (440 N. Broad Street, Room 1075)

We are seeing some exiting new developments in the area of Family and Community Engagement. Some of them are captured in the Department of Education's Dual Capacity Framework for Family-School Partnerships released this April. If you would like to learn more about high impact strategies for parent and family engagement and start a conversation about how we can bring them to Philadelphia, please send one of your parents and/or staff members to join the Office of Family and Community Engagement for a 1.5 hour overview presentation, so they can bring this information back to your school. For additional information and to RSVP, please e-mail or call 215-400-6610.

On May 20, 2014 Office of Family and Community Engagement is offering a full day professional development for School Improvement Support Liaisons and other parent and family support personnel. The training will start with the presentation on the New Trends in Family Engagement to provide and overview of the new DOE's Dual Capacity Building Framework for building school-family partnerships, a brief exploration of the existing national models, like Academic Parent-Teacher Teams (please see above). We will also explore what parents want to see from schools when it comes to parent and family engagement, have a Q&A about the School Advisory Councils, and go through train-the-trainer for the basics of building school-family partnerships which participants can turn-key with the staff at their schools. Training will be held from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm @ the District's Education Center (440 N. Broad Street, Room 1075). For additional information and to RSVP, please e-mail or call 215-400-6610.

Office of Family and Community Engagement is able to offer a number of seats for parents to attend State-wide Title I Parent Conference from June 30th to July 2nd. This is a great opportunity for your parents to have a great conference experience, make new connections, learn, and bring information back to your schools. Additional information and to download an application are available. Applications are due by close of business on May 22nd.

On Saturday, May 31st, the District is hosting a Family Education Summit. Our goal is to share all kinds of strategies and resources to prevent summer reading and numeracy loss and promote high achievement and high expectations. It will be a day of fun, interactive workshops for both parents and kids. Flyer, RSVP and additional information are available.
